Fours start their Lords International Essex League Campaign
April 26, 2008Belhus 4th XI 88 all out
Rainham 2nd XI 89-1
The Belhus fourth eleven played their first ever match in the Lord's International Essex Cricket League at North Stifford on Saturday, having switched leagues with their third eleven, who now play in the Readers South Thames Cricket League. The fours found Sawyer and Blake to be in devastating early-season form with the ball. Sawyer took the wickets of Danny Norris and Connor Day, as well as the Belhus batsmen who made double figures, Jim Robertson and Darren Wells, to finish with four wickets for only six runs from his maximum permitted spell of eight overs, one of which was a maiden. Third change bowler Blake then picked up 3-19 from seven overs (one maiden) to claim the wickets of Ryan Wells, Paul Whitlock and Terry Squires as Belhus slumped to 88 all out. Robertson scored 27 from 78 balls, which included two boundaries while Wells struck one four in an innings of 14 from 33 deliveries. After the break, Rainham reached their target in the 21st over for the loss of just one wicket, when Callaghan was caught by Ryan Wells off the bowling of Terry Squires for 41 in a knock which contained six boundaries, while Blake completed a fine all-round performance by hitting five boundaries in his 38 not out to seal a fine nine-wicket victory for the visitors.
