U13s: A Proud Performance by Belhus in last eight of Essex Cup
June 23, 2008Belhus U13 85-8
Wanstead U13 86-2
Belhus U13s put up a creditable performance when they travelled to Wanstead where they found an opposition containing no fewer than three South of England representative players in this Essex Bradford Cup quarter-final, which is part of the MCC Spirit of Cricket National Club Championship. Belhus, batting first, had Ryan Wells and Owen Jefferies reach double figures with 10 and 12 respectively as good tight bowling kept the reins on the visiting batsmen. Rehan Hassan took 2-13 from four overs (one maiden) and Asad Ahmed took 1-24, also from four overs. After the break, tight opening spells from Tom Wood and Max Scott saw Wanstead reaching only five runs from the first five overs, but then Hassan and Kishan Velani cut loose to accelerate the home score. Hassan scored 31 but Tony Ellis will probably long remember yorking South of England representative player Velani for 17. Pick of the Belhus bowling was undoubtedly Tom Wood, taking one wicket for just five runs from 3.2 overs, which included one maiden, while Ryan Wells of Belhus had a fine match as wicketkeeper.
