Sun 2nds: Didd & Day shine but Belhus lose to Goresbrook Super Stand

Belhus Sun 2nds: 190 for 5
Goresbrook: 193 for 2

Belhus won the toss and selected to bat first on a belter of a batting track at North Stifford. Chris Didd opened up with all rounder Darren Wells, with Didd quickly getting into his stride hitting two boundaries in the first over. Darren Wells who dealt with some fine bowling from K.Friend finally got caught to a fine in swinging ball with just 3 runs against his name. Gary Hayers joined Didd at the crease, and looked in fine form putting on a fine 87 run partnership until he was caught trying to play the ball through mid-wicket for 20 runs. Richard Day came in at 4 and immediately looked in fine touch guiding his first ball over the 3rd man boundary rope. Unfortunately Didd didn't hang around with Day for too long miss-judging a straight one from spinner Kulesena for a fine 74 runs. Skipper Darren Frampton joined Day at the crease and put on an important 69 run partnership, with Day ending up with a rapid 53 runs from just 41 balls, and Frampton with 21 runs from 27 balls. Belhus finished with a respectable 190 runs from their 35 overs.

With a competitive score to beat Goresbrook began their innings very nervously, and with two wickets falling for just 18 runs the signs looked very good for Belhus. With Belhus jubilant and sensing more wickets in the taking along came R.Williams, and J Williams to spoil the party. Apart from a chance offered up to Belhus while RW was still to score Goresbrooks 3rd and 4th batsman took advantage of a great track and treated the travelling team to a master class of batting putting on a magnificent 175 run partnership. R.Wiilliams finished up with 90 Not Out at the close, with J.Williams ending with 66 Not Out. Goresbrook reached the Belhus total with 3 overs to spare in a day which saw 383 runs from just 70 overs, with only 7 wickets falling. The pick of the Belhus bowling was Chris Didd with 6 overs for just 9 runs, and Rob Long with 6 overs taking 1 wicket for just 28 runs.

Sun 2nds: Super Norris hits 59 not out from just 34 deliveries

London Marshes 183-6
Belhus 2nd 186-3

Sixteen year old Danny Norris struck a superb 59 not out from just 34 deliveries to conclude this match for Belhus with seven wickets and 8.3 overs to spare at North Stifford on Sunday. Norris hit no fewer than 13 fours in a collection of drives and well-timed leg-glances. There were no failures at all with the willow for the home side. The father and son opening combination of Darren and Ryan Wells looked set towards a 50-run partnership until, just one run short of the milestone, Wells junior was beaten for pace by the impressive first change bowler, Mason. Young Wells went for a fine 17 from 37 deliveries, while Wells senior took the score to 91 with his captain for the day, Peter Clark. Darren Wells was eventually trapped leg before for a fine 43. Clark eventually fell for 34 when he became Mason's second victim. Gavin Jefferies then joined Norris as these two put on 47 in an match-winning unbroken stand for the fourth wicket, with Jefferies contributing 19 runs from just 18 deliveries. For the visitors, Mason finished with 2-45 from eight overs, one of which was a maiden. Horsewood picked up the remaining wicket but was quite expensive at 1-30 from three overs.

Earlier, the Londoners were off to a solid start, aided by two dropped chances, with openers Broughton and Blyth scoring 55 and 17 respectively as the pairing put on 56 for the first wicket. Blyth was the first to be dismissed, bowled by Alan Maidment, in the fourteenth over. Broughton faced 79 deliveries in making his fine 55, though his was the second wicket to fall, caught by Norris at cover, again off Maidment. Three runs later, Holt was clean bowled to give Maidment his third wicket, breaking a stump and fracturing a bail in the process. The demon demolition deliverer finished with 3-28 from eight overs at the Chafford end (one maiden). Horsewood was caught at cover point by Darren Wells, who made good ground to pouch the cherry, while Beckett soon followed, this time for Ryan Wells to take a fine catch slightly above head height to his left from a square cut, also at cover point. Mason was stumped by Brian Edwards off spin bowler Owen Jefferies for 10 as "OJ" finished with 1-17 from eight overs, including one maiden. The figures though, did not do him justice as he beat the bat on numerous occasions. In truth, the young spin bowler's deliveries were often too good for the batsmen to read. Clayton and Holt finished the innings with 28 not out and 6 not out respectively as Mike Randall ended on 1-22 from six overs and Norris took one wicket for eight runs from three overs.

Sun 2nds: Owen Jefferies leads Belhus to a four-run victory

Belhus 2nd 140 all out
Goodmayes & Blythswood 136 all out

Belhus opened the batting with Gary Hayers and Barry Ruck on a fairly unpredictable batting track. Both openers saw off some good bowling, and were looking good until Ruck tried to push the runs along and lost his stumps to a good delivery from Dinesh for 8 runs. Ben Palmer came to the crease and as always looked very comfortable until a bit of bad running sent the youngster back to the pavilion. With Hayers making an important 24 runs the only other contributors were Darren Frampton with 20, Mike Randall with an impressive 27 not out, and Rob Long who made a very important 11 batting at number 11. Belhus were eventually bowled out for 140 off of 37 overs.

Goodmayes replied in positive fashion all be it they were helped by some erratic bowling from Belhus. A decision was made to slow the ball down, and it was the right one with Owen Jefferies and Ben Palmer dismissing both openers. The wickets were shared evenly among the Belhus bowlers, but undoubtedly the best bowling display was from Man of the Match Owen Jefferies who finished up with 3 wickets from 8 overs, for just 13 runs. Mike Randall finished with 3 wickets from his 3 overs, Barry Ruck ended up with 2 wickets and Rob Long and Ben Palmer took one apiece. Goodmayes were eventually all out falling short by just 4 runs, which rounded off yet another close game for the Belhus Sunday second eleven.

After the break, Imbert was next to cash in on the perfect playing surface with an undefeated 122 for the vistors, with Stroud, 52, Donnolly 31 and Burke with 11 not out giving South Weald an eight wicket victory with just eight balls to spare.

July 13, 2008

Sun 2nds: Morris Dancing in 154 opening partnership with Randall

Belhus 2nd 222-3
Rontays 97-9

Belhus capitalised on another fine North Stifford surface on Sunday as Stuart Morris struck a fine 93 in an innings which included 13 fours and one six. He put on 154 for the first wicket with Mike Randall, who made exactly 50 before he was first to be dismissed. Randall hit eight boundaries. There was further support from Lee Webber, who finished with 38 not out in this 40 overs-per-side game. Rontays were never in the hunt as Owen Jefferies took three wickets for just three runs from five overs, three of which were maidens. Greg Mendham took 3-21 from seven overs (three maidens) and Robert Long ended with 3-15 from eight overs (one maiden). Paul Whitlock was dynamic behind the timbers, taking no fewer than three stumpings.

Sun 2's lose to Old Gravesendians despite a fantastic Ton from Webber

Belhus 215 for 5
Old Gravesendians 268 for 6

Old Gravesendians travelled to Belhus for this Sunday fixture, and in winning the toss elected to bat first on a very good Belhus wicket. Despite some good bowling from Ricki Ellis 8 overs for 29 runs, S. Mahon from Gravesendians grew in confidence on a very good wicket, and partnered by Forgman put on 134 for the first wicket. Mahon's impressive knock came to end when he drove an off drive straight at the Belhus skipper from Lee Webber's bowling for 102. R Mahon came to the wicket, and quickly moved the score onto 208 from 31 overs until he was caught by Webber off of young Amy Squires bowling for 48, her first wicket in adult cricket. Gravesendians posted a final score of 268 from their 40 overs with other contributions being Forgman with 58, and Stevens with 31.
Belhus began their innings chasing a strong target, and lost a wicket early with Robert Pantelli making just 1 trapped in front off of Chapman's bowling. Michael Fogg looked comfortable until he looped a pull shot straight up in the air for 10 off of the bowling of Dickson. Darren Wells coming in at 3 struck a very impressive 30 runs, but the innings belonged to Lee Webber who looked at home as soon as he came to the crease. Lee struck a superb 110 not out off just 97 balls, which included 14 fours. Danny Chandler 15, and Ben Palmer 22 not out gave Webber good support, with Belhus falling short of the Gravesendians total by 53 runs finishing up with 215 from their 40 overs.

Another Nailbiter for the Sunday II's

Belhus 148 for 7
Rainham 149 for 5
Belhus visited Rainham and were put into bat on a wicket very familiar to us this year...Slow, Low and in need of a Mow. Reliable duo Clarke and Randall opened proceedings, however the partnership didn't last long with Clarke walking back to the pavilion for 1. Darren Wells promoted to a nose bleeding 3 in the batting order 'Pinch Hitter' didn't disappoint, and as usual took 3 balls to play himself in and was looking in good touch before a straight one, which was supposed to sail over cow corner didn't and he was out for for 12. Lee Webber came to the crease and looked at home immediately, and put on a good 40 run partnership with Randall before Mike was outdone for 20. Webber continued to dominate the bowling until he was well caught by the only person on the leg side for 66 off of just 66 balls. Other contributions were made by Frampton with 16, and Pantelli for 10.

With Rainham needing 149 to win from their 40 overs Belhus were in high spirits, but good bowling from Ellis and Long early on failed to produce any wickets. The first breakthrough was a Run Out, with Reed taking on young Wells and regretting it for 10. Although the run rate was kept down Rainham always had wickets in hand, and although it was a tight finish they crawled over the line in the last over. With the ball Ricki Ellis continues to impress week in week out with 8 overs, 2 wickets for 15, with Mr 'Steady' Rob Long bowling 8 Overs, 1 wicket for 15. Young Ryan Wells impressed with the ball with 4 overs, claiming 1 wicket for just 20 runs, with Palmer and Randall also bowling well.

Sun 2nds secure their first victory of the season

In a nail biting game at North Stifford, Belhus won the toss and decided to put Crusaders into bat on a wicket likely to do a bit more early on with the new ball. Alan Maidment 1 for 21 off 8 accompanied by Rob Long 1 for 14 off 8 provided a master class in line and length bowling restricting the visitors to 35 for 2 off of 16 Overs. Ricky Ellis 2 for 17 off 5 came on first change and provided a great spell picking up the wickets of N Morrison for 4 and White for 3. With the introduction of Rahman scoring 57 off of 63 balls the visitors fought back well from being in a very precarious position, but with Chris Didd 1 for 22 off 8 generating amazing pace from the road end, and good bowling from Mike Anderson , and Paul Whitlock the visitors were restricted to 149 off of 40 overs.

Belhus openers Chris Didd and Mike Randall got Belhus off to a good start, until Didd 22 off 36 balls mis-judged a straight one and waddled off back to the pavilion. Paul Whitlock promoted to 3 in the order looked good until he lofted a pull shot to P Singh in Mid-Wicket, with Alex Jennings, and Lee Webber failing to trouble the scorers, all be it Webber was the victim of a suicide run out. Ben Palmer came in at six, and was looking in good form until another bad bit of running sent the youngster on his way. With things starting to look a bit bleak with the run rate approaching 7 an over Darren Frampton 35 Not Out off of 36 balls came to the crease at number 7 and put on a superb 49 run partnership at a very important time with Randall. Randall 44 off of 95 balls eventually miss read a straight one from P Singh. With 18 runs required off of 3 overs Ricky Ellis 10 Not Out and Frampton made it look relatively straight forward in tough conditions winning the match in the 40th Over with 4 balls to spare, and 3 wickets.

Belhus win nail-biter

Goresbrook 106 all out
Belhus Sunday 2nd X1 107 for 9
In a brilliant game of friendly cricket at North Stifford,Goresbrook won the toss and chose to bat. They were soon in trouble at 15 for 3,mainly due to some brilliant seam bowling from Rob Long who ended with 4 for 14 from his 7 overs.Only Iver with 24 runs and Mike Rooke with 17 managed to do anything on a lively track suited more to the bowlers.Rich Waters with 2 for 14 and Brian Edwards 2 for 18 ensured Belhus would not have to chase a big target, dismissing Goresbrook for 106.Belhus must have thought chasing a small total would be easy work, but were soon proved wrong as they found themselves 51 for 8,staring defeat in the face! However a responsible and vital partnership between fifteen year old Ben palmer with 13 runs and number 10 batsman Darren Wells with a splendid 31 not out,saw Belhus home with only 4 balls to go.Andy Livett with 3 for 19,Mike Rooke 2 for 19 and Toby Maund 2 for 21 were Goresbrook's best bowlers.

sunday 2nd X1 soundly beaten

Belhus Sunday 2nd X1 88 all out
Rettendon Sunday X1 91 for 4

Belhus won the toss and decided(mainly due to the heat) to bat . The openers Matt Clarke 16 runs and sixteen year old George Brooks 28 runs seemed to give Belhus a good start. However, a major collapse ensued, and only skipper Darren Frampton with 17 runs, managed to get going. T.Everitt with 3 for 15 and C.Abrahart with 3 for 4 ripped into the Belhus order. An Inspired spell of bowling from Rob long taking 2 for 20 from his 8 overs gave Belhus a glimmer of hope, but the young Rettendon skipper Phil Everitt with a fine 30 not out (4 fours,1 six) saw them home comfortably.

July 30, 2007

sunday 2nd X1 soundly beaten

Belhus Sunday 2nd X1 157 all out
South Weald 161 for 6

Belhus never looked as though they had scored enough on this damp track, Pete Clark 17, Barry Ruck 29, Billy Winter 24, and Danny Norris 19 not out the main contributors. Eddie Pickton 4 for 36 and Pickton junior 3 for 38 did the main damage for South Weald. South Weald almost entirely relied on one innings from Davey who scored a fine 104 off only 75 balls to get them home. Darren Wells 2 for 3 and "squirrel" Campbell-jones 2 for 32 were the only bowlers of any note, as South weald got home by 4 wickets

Sunday twos in great win

Belhus Sunday 2nd X1 158 all out
Old Dartfordians 131 for 8

In a great game which Belhus seemed to have no chance of winning after being 85 for 9, with only skipper ian wright with 51(8 fours) offering any resistance, a sublime last wicket partnership of 73 between Under15 player Danny Chandler 31 not out(3 fours) and old stalwart Alan Maidment 31 (5 fours) got Belhus to a respectable total. Maidment, continuing his heroics with the ball, bowled superbly up front, restricting Dartfordians with a fine spell of 8 overs for 1 wicket and just 13 runs, at this stage the run rate was growing, and the introduction of wiley "old" Cliff Cansdales spin( 8 overs 2 for 16) combined with Wright's 2 for 16 off 8 put the game out of Dartfords reach, young under11 player Harry Levy making his senior debut also bowled superbly taking 1 for 12 from his 4 overs! Franklin with 22. rowlatt(jnr) 24 and Deane with 25 were the only batsmen to trouble the scorers as Dartford ended up 27 runs shy of the target.

Belhus Sunday 2nds enjoy another good game

Belvedere 239 for 2
Belhus Sunday 2nd X1 178 all out

On a good batting track, Belvedere made the most of the track and rattled up 239,with youngster Ben Lodder scoring a fine 104 not out and Gamester 52 not out. Belhus in reply started well with the opening pair putting on 29 before Ian Wright departed for 22, captain Darren Frampton then struck a great 62 (64 balls,7fours). However the wickets were falling far too quickly and Belhus ended up short. Only father and son pair Laurie Hawkes with 16 and Lee with 16 also managed to get into double figures. Also worth noting is that Belhus fielded an under11 in Ryan Wells and an under13 girl in Amy Squires, both aquitted themselves well!

Belhus Sunday 2nds enjoy good game

Tatsfield Village 197 for 8
Belhus Sun 2nd X1 158 for 9

In this new fixture for the club, Tatsfield batted first and were going along really well until a bit of a late order collapse, K Eames with 45 and D king with 50 not out,the main contributors. Thirteen yr old Billy Winter was once again brilliant with the ball, taking 4 for 20 from his allocated 8 overs! Belhus started the run chase well with an opening stand of 33,George Brooks scoring 15 and Rob Pantelli 19. Some sensible middle order batting by young Winter with 25runs and Ian Wright with 35runs gave BElhus hope, but the run-rate required was proving too much Mark Thomas with a brisk 19 and his son Connor with 15 not out tried in vain, but Belhus fell short by 39 runs.

Please see the picture below for a view of the fantastic pavillion.

Sixteen year old Gavin Jefferies, a year eleven pupil at the Chafford Campus, struck a fine undefeated 65 off 75 deliveries in an innings which included eight fours. BELHUS 187-6
WEST MERSEA 192-3

Ben Palmer - a fourteen year old schoolboy from William Edwards Sports College - featured in a magnificent 101-run partnership with his team captain, Ian Wright, at West Mersea on Sunday afternoon. Captain Wright also reached 52, hitting one six and eight fours. Offering good support were Stuart Morris and Ben Marns, both with 18. For West Mersea, Storer took 2-18 and spin bowler Young took 2-5.

After tea, the Belhus attack came in for some tap, but another fourteen year old, Danny Norris, from the Chafford Campus School, bowled some fine medium pace. The three Mersea wickets to fall were claimed by Richard Waters, 2-38 from six overs and Barry Ruck 1-23 from four. After the game, Belhus captain Wright said "Ben was exceptionally mature for his age, he took a bit of a blow on the thigh early on but that did not affect his concentration. He seemed to like the quicker bowlers best, he played two absolutely perfect straight drives for four off one over".

Opener Stuart Morris hit 37 but a third wicket partnership of 112 between Darren Frampton (55 with 6 fours) and Michael Cansdale (54 with 10 bounderies) set the innings firmly in the right direction.

In response Hill struggled to get any momentum going (Neil Tallac made 33) and even though Belhus used 9 bowlers they could still not take advantage of some of the part timers. Bradley Sheridan and Brian Edwards were the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 11 and 2 for 17 respectively and sealed a comfortable victory by 128 runs.

Belhus grind out victory after 86 from Turner

BELHUS 2nd 188-6 dec
RAINHAM 2nd 160 all out

Nathan Turner struck a magnificent 86 from 95 deliveries in this non-competitive match at Lambs Lane on Sunday. Supported by Ian Wright with 24, with these two putting on 65 for the second wicket, Belhus were able to declare after just 32 overs. Terry Squires also reached double figures with 11. For Rainham, Sawyer and Ruskin finished with 3-11 and 2-17 respectively. After the break, home skipper Adrian Moon struck a fine 67 in an innings which included six fours and two sixes and featured in a partnership of exactly 100 for the fifth wicket with Hothi, who made a very patient 26. The tide turned back in the visitors' favour when Paul Whitlock at cover teamed up with wicketkeeper Wright to force a run-out while Turner held on to a fierce pull at wide mid-on. Belhus paceman Robert Long, on debut, returned 4-39 from 8.5 overs in two spells, one at the beginning of the innings, which preceded the effective mopping up of the Rainham tail with just two overs remaining. Off spinners Mike Squires and Cliff Cansdale also managed to contribute to the home side's downfall; Squires took 3-41 from 11 overs which included three maidens, while Cansdale took two wickets from only four overs, three of which were maidens. In fact Cansdale and Long both claimed two wickets with consecutive deliveries, though were unable to find the elusive wicket to record a hat-trick. Also emerging with credit in the bowling stakes was Aveley year eight pupil Ashley Kirk, who was unlucky to finish without reward despite a good six-over spell of left-arm spin.

Friendly vs Ingatestone 28/05/06

Ingatestone 69 all out
Belhus 2nd XI 70/7

With all three Saturday games being abandoned due to the bad weather and with the Sunday first XI being soundly beaten by Orsett, the Sunday 2nd string won their low scoring game against Ingatestone.

The home side were skittled out for just 69 runs with Ian Wright and Chris Baker returning figures of 3/22 and 3/17 respectively for the visitors.

Belhus struggled to reach their target as batting was proving very difficult in the wet conditions. They finally achieved the required total but with the loss of 7 wickets. Top scorer was Paul Whitlock with 15.

Lucas aids recovery

WEST MERSEA 197 for 5
BELHUS 2ND XI 164 for 9

The Sunday second eleven opened the Belhus club's 2006 season with a promising performance at West Mersea on 16th April. Despite an early breakthrough the hosts kept the scoreboard moving consistently due to Rutter 39, Young 52, Pryke 28 and an excellent 65 not out from debutant Aussie O’Regan. This was a good work out for the Belhus bowlers with one wicket each for Paul Whitlock, Bradley Sheridan, Cliff Cansdale and acting skipper Ryan Lucas. The same could not be said for the Belhus batsmen who struggled to 48 for 6 with home bowlers Phillip and Young claiming three wickets apiece. There were mitigating circumstances: during the tea break a moderate shower livened up the pitch with the bowlers being able to extract some sideways movement off the moist surface. A recovery ensued as Ryan Lucas and U15 player Clark Wren put on 70 for the seventh wicket. Lucas made 44 yet Wren registered a personal best score of 46. Unfortunately Belhus were unable to match their heroics in the corresponding fixture last year when an amazing winning recovery from 12 for 5 ensued. This year, Belhus fell 34 runs short of the winning target with Cliff Cansdale and Bradley Sheridan finishing unbeaten on 14 and 12 respectively.

Belhus 2's scramble to dramatic tie.

Goresbrook 2's 174 all out
Belhus 2's 174-9

What a fantastic match this was. Belhus Sunday 2's visited Goresbrook and the home side batted first on a slow, low pitch. Belhus acting skipper Jim Robertson and fellow seamer Paul Whitlock made early inroads taking two wickets apiece early on the leave the home side reeling at 19 - 4. But Craig Irving (47) and Andy Livett (41*) rescued the home side. Indeed a higher score looked likely before Robertson returned to finish the resistance as he ended up with fine figures of 6-17 from 6.4 overs. Barry Ruck chipped in with 2-48 and Paul Whitlock too 2-36.

In reply Belhus were struggling with the slow pitch. Chris Baker did dig in at number three and his innings of 63* proved vital and the next highest score for Belhus was Brian Edwards with 15. With the run rate climbing Baker was joined by last man Robertson at 138-9 with 4 overs remaining. The target of 37 from four was a big ask but Baker set about it with great confidence. He struck the ball well, hitting 8 fours and 1 six during his innings. With Robertson chipping in the visitors required seven from the last over. To heighten the drama Robertson was bowled from a no-ball but with Belhus needing two to win from the last ball they could only scramble a bye to level the scores. An excellent, enjoyable match proved entertaining to the last. Windsley 3-29 proved to be the pick of the Goresbrook bowlers.
