Indoor Junior and Youth Coaching at Grays School - Full Details and Booking Form

September 03, 2008

Belhus Cricket Club endorses the youth coaching programme being staged at The Grays School Media Arts College, starting in January 2009, which is organised by the regional branch of our governing body, the South Essex District Cricket Board.

The ten week courses will commence on Sunday 11th January 2009 and continue eack week thereafter up to and including Sunday 29th March 2009, with the exception of 15th and 22nd February due to half-term holidays.

There are three courses each Sunday. At 2pm, there is coaching for players of school years 7-9 inclusive, at 3pm more older players, ideally school years 10-12, while at 4pm we concentrate on core skills training for younger and inexperienced players, sometimes referred to as "Basic skills" though the course tests our coaches as much as the juniors as we teach fundamental techniques that will hold a player in good stead for the rest of his or her playing career. This course should be attended by beginners before attending the other courses that are primarily net based.

The courses are open equally to girls.

Previous courses have been very popular with a large contingent of Belhus CC juniors attending; we hope that this trend will continue for 2009. You will find a few of the Belhus CC coaches in attendance and the course is administered by our own youth chairman, Cliff Cansdale, who will be pleased to answer any queries that you may have.

For safety reasons, the number of entrants will be limited and therefore places are accepted on a "first come first served" basis. The booking form, which also contains more information about the courses, is available here, from the coaching page of the South Essex District Cricket Board website.

Youth Events and Opportunities with the Essex Association of Boys Clubs

June 06, 2008

As you may be aware, Belhus Cricket Club pays an annual membership fee to the Essex Association of Boys Clubs (EABC) and therefore all junior members (including girls) may apply to take part in a wide range of activities that are run by them. Examples of activities include Pool, Table Tennis, Archery, Cross Country, Night Excercises, Angling to name but a few - oh - and there's some top quality cricket too!

If you would like to learn more, please speak to the club's EABC liaison officer, Mrs Jackie Norris on 01375 480429. A copy of the EABC latest newsletter, events calendar and booking forms can be found on the noticeboard at the clubhouse. Many of these events are very heavily subsidised and in some cases are absolutely free of charge!

Belhus Juniors to stage a "Jailbreak"

November 01, 2007

Initial plans have been hatched by the Belhus U13 members and their parents to form an "Escape Committee" for junior members taking part in a charity jailbreak from Chelmsford prison. This will be the first time that the club has been involved in the annual event, which is organised by the Essex Association of Boys Clubs and will take place in October 2008. The object of the excercise is to get as far away from Chelmsford Prison as possible within a set period of time, or, for youth groups such as ourselves, to escape via an unusual or imaginative route. One possibility for us may be to escape via some of the nearby County cricket grounds, perhaps popping in for a bit of cricket practice at each centre. But no doubt the final decisions will be taken by the escape committee. Junior members who would like to take part in this event or even join the escape committee, should contact Julia Squires, hon. youth secretary of Belhus CC on 01708 857728. Parents are particularly encouraged to join the escape committee.
